Individual Diet and Lifestyle Coaching

"When first starting the IC diet, there are so many unknowns about how it might affect the body and bladder. And it can be extremely intimidating to figure out the do's and don'ts. A food journal can help, but in itself can be intimidating. Dietitians can help ease anxiety related to changing diet by assisting with the construction, implementation, and analysis of food journals.

When I first started my IC diet, I was handed a sheet of foods to try and foods to avoid. I followed the sheet explicitly and soon became anemic. I didn't realize at the time that in order to absorb iron, you also need vitamin C. And I had cut out all citrus fruits and foods containing vitamin C. If I had been encouraged to seek nutrition counseling with the help of a dietitian, I could have avoided potential complications, such as anemia.

I am fortunate in that I can control my IC symptoms almost solely with diet modifications. Every now and then, I need medical assistance with persistent flare-ups. It's truly amazing the power that the diet has." Kari W.
